Situation: Global Shippers Expect Increased Emissions Regulations

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) currently oversees emissions regulations for the global shipping industry, but recent actions by the European Parliament suggest that the latter group may take steps to increase oversight. The European Union (EU) relies on a cap and trade principle known as the Emissions Trading System (ETS) to lower carbon emissions and combat climate change.
